2 - 1/2 pounds lean ground beef 1 large onion ; chopped 8 cloves garlic ; minced 8 slices ginger ; minced 5 pods dried chili pepper ; crushed 2 large potatoe s ; sliced 2 medium green pepper s ; cubed spices 2 Tbsp ground turmeric powder 1 tsp Laxmi red chili powder 1 tsp black mustard seed 1 tsp cumin powder 1/2 tsp ground cinnamon Optional 1 jalapeno pepper ; minced 1/2 tsp black pepper 1/2 tsp salt Miscellaneous 1 Tbsp cooking oil water ; as needed Edit Copy and Customize About BigOven ProINSTRUCTIONS
1. Fry chopped onions in cooking oil. Add spice mixture and any optional items, along with garlic, ginger and red chile pepper. Cook the spices for a twenty seconds or so.
2. Add the ground beef, separating it with a spatula while browning.
3. Add potatos and green pepper, and a dash of water.
4. Lower heat to medium low, and cook 40-45 minutes, stirring occasionally, watching the liquid level.
5. The dish is finished when the liquid is almost absorbed.
6. Serve over steamed rice.
NOTES
The degree of browning at the end is a preference. Some like it slightly browner, others like it a little more soupy.

MauraSpeckt This is a great recipe! Even though the large amount of ingredients was a bit hard to collect together, and I didn t find the Laxmi powder it is all well worth it because the flavors were fabulous as they were!
